Students should read the Student Deferral, Suspension or Cancellation Policy and Procedure before completing this form. It is also highly recommended that if students plan to defer, suspend or cancel their enrolment, they should speak to the Student Support Officer so that they are fully informed about their options. Course or unit deferral can only be approved on the grounds of compelling or compassionate personal circumstances such as:

• Student visa delay (the request for deferral will be processed only after a formal visa decision has been communicated by the Department of Home Affairs).
• Serious illness or injury (a medical certificate must state that the student was or will be unable to attend classes).
• Bereavement of close family members such as parents or grandparents (where possible death certificates should be provided).
• Major political upheaval or natural disaster in the home country requiring emergency travel and this has impacted on the
  student’s studies; or
• Traumatic experiences which could include involvement in, or witnessing a serious accident, or witnessing or being the victim
  of a serious crime, and this has impacted on the student (these cases should be supported by police or psychologists’ reports).

Students requesting transfer to another provider should refer to the International Student Transfer Between Providers Policy and Procedure to complete the Application for Release Form and provide a Letter of Offer from the proposed new provider.

International students
(i) Deferring, suspending, or cancelling enrolment may seriously affect the student visa.
(ii) Where the suspension or cancellation is not initiated by the student, the student has 20 working days to access and follow the process described in the Student Grievance Handling Policy and Procedure.
(iii) The suspension or cancellation of the student’s enrolment cannot take effect until the internal process is completed unless extenuating circumstances relating to the welfare of the student apply

Domestic students
(i) Where the suspension or cancellation is not initiated by the student, the student has 20 working days to access and follow the process described in the Student Grievance Handling Policy and Procedure.
(ii) The suspension or cancellation of the student’s enrolment cannot take effect until the internal process is completed unless extenuating circumstances relating to the welfare of the student apply.
